Funke Akindele

Funke Akindele is versatile when it comes to playing different roles and characters. She is a household name, widely celebrated both home and abroad and has starred in a lot of movies such as Jenifa, Omo Ghetto, Majele Ife, Omo Esu, Maami, Married But Living Single, Ajenifuja ... just to mention a few. Funke Akindele is an actress, movie producer and script writer. She studied Law in University of Lagos and also has an OND in Mass Communication from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ogun State. She attended Lagos State Model College Igbokuta for her secondary education and Grace Students School, Gbagada for her nursery and primary education. She started acting professionally in 1997 with I need to know, a TV series on sex education sponsored by United Nations.

The script writer, producer and lead character in Jenifa shot into limelight with Jenifa character. was written by her with the intent of passing a message to young ladies to be satisfied with what they have and to expose the danger of selling their bodies in the name of money. The Jenifa character was infused to make people laugh while learning a lesson.

As an actress, she has always loved Liz Benson, Joke Silva, Olu Jacobs. Speaking on Joke Silva, Funke says she loves her because is is professional, punctual, she reads her scripts and very disciplined. In terms of business, she respects Kunle Afolayan a lot. Outside the Nollywood industry, she wishes to work with Idris Elba.

She loves writing comedy scripts that are directed at young people and have messages for them. She is a youth ambassador and very passionate about the young people because they are the leaders of tomorrow and according to her "It is NOW we have to tidy up our future"

When not working, She loves watching the TV series such as Desperate Housewives, Private Practice, Grey's Anatomy...

For upcoming actresses, Funke advises them to be themselves, humble, serious minded, prayerful and focused.

In years to come, she intends to be behind the camera, discover stars and tutor them. She currently has a school of drama called Scene One School of drama where students are tutored in acting, dancing, singing, entertainment and discipline. She also has a management company (Jenifa Foundation) where talents are discovered.
