Irugbin

A story rich in Yoruba proverbs and idioms... Irugbin is a classic Yoruba movie of an ifa priest (Fasipe) that saved a city from disastrous calamity that befell it. The producer and story writter (Aishat Lawal) really did a wonderful job! Kudos to her! I also love Femi Adebayo's character in this movie, very interesting character!

The scene that Yinka Quadri was telling his daughter these words really got to me. He said:
"Ma soro odi s'olodumare
Olodumare tiwo wo yi, o mo owuye okan gbogbo wa
Olodumare, Oba adani, oba amoni, oba areni, Oba apani,
Bo bawa tori eyi to sele yi, to sope o yo soro si olodumare,
Adanwo leleyi, Ba ba r'adantan ki la fe f'olodumare se?
Atori ikan sekan lolorun Oba
Ohun lo mowa, ohun lomo wa, Ohun lomo ara ti o fiwa da
Iwo o se jeka gba eleyin ti Oluwa da si wa lagbada
Jeka gba gege bi ipin, Ka ri bi kadara wa
Ka gba wipe adayeba ohun lakuleyan
B'oba oke ko ba sele yi, Ewo lamo ti o buru ju bayi ti Olodumare Oba mi yo tun se
Omo mi, ma sunkun"

This is translated as:
"Don't talk blasphemy against God
This God that you are talking about, knows all of our heart cry
The Almighty God, He is our creator, He is our molder, He brings low and He takes away our breath.
If it is because of what has happened, you decide to speak against the Almighty,
This is a test, what if we experience a more terrible setback, what we will then say to the Almighty
God is a King than does one thing because of another thing which we may not know of
He is the one that made us, He knows us, He knows the wonder He can perform with us
Why don't you let us accept that which God has put on us
Let us accept it as our fate, let us see it as our destiny
If God in Heaven did not do this, what worse thing do we know of that the Almighty will do?
My child, don't cry"
